General Civil Engineering is a discipline which is the combination of four branches: geospatial, transportation, structural, and geotechnical. CLSA focuses on the surveying aspect, covering photogrammetry, Geographic Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), remote sensing, laser scanning and other techniques used to map surfaces needed for construction projects, excavation, and to resolve land disputes. Cal Poly Pomona’s program utilizes a bulk of these skills to better prepare students for the field.
Through Cal Poly Pomona’s Civil Engineering program, our Geospatial Engineering option is one of only 10 ABET accredited programs across the nation. The Geospatial Option includes a wide range of coursework, with an emphasis insurveying, laser scanning, remote sensing, photogrammetry, GPS, and GIS research. The ultimate goal of this program is to prepare students to become licensed Civil Engineers (Professional Engineer) and licensed surveyors (Professional Land Surveyor).
The California Land Surveyors Association (CLSA) student chapter at Cal Poly Pomona is transforming students into highly engaged problem solvers, as well as dedicated professionals. In order to maintain the highest possible standards, Cal Poly Pomona offers a Geospatial Option under the Civil Engineering major. The engineering curriculum follows a rigorous path of courses and hands-on practice to ensure that students maintain the competitive edge when entering the workforce.
